 preparation for his solo exhibition Googong, Gary Martin immersed himself in the distinctive landscape of the Southern Tablelands in New South Wales. Attuned to subtle shifts in light and the seasonal rhythms of local flora, Martin expertly conveys a strong sense of place. By recognising and accentuating visual nuances in the topography, he creates compositions that are both natural and stylised.

“Googong Reservoir and the surrounding lands are a surprising presence in this landscape,” Martin notes. “Here, forests, open woodlands, and grasslands converge with a deep body of fresh water, creating striking visual contrasts.”
